1971. Waco's Bunch Rode
Hard And Fast To Meet Their Fate... and Sister Anna rode with them!
This motorcycle western hybrid features
gorgeous cinematography, genuinely sympathetic characters, and a wonderful
opening song, which serves as the film's entire score. This is an ultra
low budget film, but one that is full of inventive imagery and off beat
characters. There is a quiet goodness to the motorcycle protagonists
juxtaposed against double crossing authority figures, who are addicted
and corrupted by their power, just as the outlaws are liberated by their
addiction to freedom. Haunting and enigmatic, shows off the beauty of
the Mexican / American countryside. Most poignant perhaps is the name
of the outlaw's benevolent and charismatic leader, Waco, the coincidental
significance of which was not lost on this reviewer.
